The Perfect Storm began test rides last week and was fully operational on Monday, with some minor cosmetic works still to be completed.
However, the 280 metre long ride looked a success with screams and laughter heard echoing through it’s three giant funnels.
The ride picks up those who dare to jump into the eye of the storm, whizzing them down enclosed water slides before they unexpectedly plunge into a giant whirlpool, set-up to look like a tornado.
Spokesman James Cook said the Storm is the first of its kind built in the world and took 43 shipping containers to bring it to the Illawarra from Canada.
It has a total drop of 25 metres and will be capable of handling approximately 800 riders per hour using four-person cloverleaf rafts.
Mr Cook said staff had been working around the clock since May to construct this “Goliath of a ride”.
The Perfect Storm is one of 11 attractions at the park which includes dozens of water slides.
