The IC received the “Emerging Research Park” award for its efforts in linking education, research, industry and government to drive social and economic improvement in the Illawarra.
The award recognizes parks that have been operating for less than ten years and excel in bringing technology from the laboratory to economically viable business activities.
Since opening its doors in 2008, the IC has grown to generate over $2 billion in economic activity and employ over 1,500 people.
“Innovation comes down to people and great ideas. It’s about the connections we make and the spirit of wanting to make a difference,” UOW Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Judy Raper said.
“We aim to provide the platform to push the boundaries and see what Wollongong can achieve to create future opportunities for success.”
