Barely 48 hours after arriving in Australia, Powell had 10 of his 14 points in a telling third quarter cameo that put the Kings out to a nine-point lead at the final break.
The 33-year-old ended up fouling out of the match but the damage was done with the Kings holding on for their first win of the season.
“I’ll think we’ll get a lot better once Josh has had more than one and half hours of practice,” Gaze said.
“He’s got a vast experience and he can play the game. Once he gets a bit better understanding of our system we can utilise his talents even more but I think both Kevin [Lisch] and Jason [Cadee] and all the guys got him in situations where he could be good down low.
“He had a couple of gimmes but some of that turnaround stuff with his size and bulk...you can see why he’s played at the highest level.”
