It is believed the man had gone to get takeaway food and was returning to his truck, which was parked out the front of Unanderra Community Centre, when he was hit by a car in the southbound lanes.
The driver of the car involved, Ivan, told the Mercury he braked in an attempt to avoid a collision but estimates he was travelling at 50km/h on impact.
“I’m just a bit shocked,” said Ivan.
“He (the pedestrian) stood up and said ‘I’m alright’ [then] he laid on the grass. I hope he’s okay,” he said.
NSW Ambulance paramedics took the pedestrian away a short time ago.
He’s understood to have suffered a leg injury.
