Students from 13 Illawarra public schools helped break a Guiness World Records title on Friday, taking part in the world’s largest Amateur Variety Act at the Schools Spectacular.

Kids from Albion Park, Figtree, Kiama, Oak Flats and Wollongong High Schools, as well as Figtree Heights, Hayes Park, Mount Terry, Nareena Hills, Shell Cove, Unanderra, Windang and Wollongong West public schools joined 5500 other students to break the record at Sydney Olympic Park.
This year marked the 33rd year of the annual school talent event, which features a choir, symphony orchestra, stage band and solo performers. With more students than ever taking part, the Department of Education arranged the world record attempt to mark the occasion.
The cast of students erupted into cheers and applause on Friday as Guinness World Records adjudicator Solvej Malouf verified the record had been broken.
