The Australian film, which stars Dev Patel, Rooney Mara, David Wenham and Nicole Kidman, was nominated for four Golden Globe awards, but missed out on the awards at Sunday’s ceremony.
It will be officially released at the Australian box office on January 19.
The film tells the true story of Tasmanian Saroo Brierley, who tracks down his birth mother and brother in India decades after he loses his family on a train near Calcutta.
More than 20 years after he was adopted by his Australian parents, Saroo used Google Earth to track down his family, searching online for months to pinpoint where they might be.
Back for its fifth year, the Sunset Cinema is on at Wollongong Botanic Garden’s Fig Lawn every Thursday, Friday and Saturday until February 18.
Early next month the musical La-La Land will be screening (on February 2).
Starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, the film took out every Golden Globes category in which it was nominated at Sunday’s awards.
