Kiama High School year 12 student Grace Allen is the winner of the Zonta Club of Wollongong’s annual Young Woman in Public Affairs Award. Held every year for International Women’s Day the award recognises a young woman making a difference.

Miss Allen leads the school’s Student Representative Council and is a member of Amnesty International. Zonta Club of Wollongong’s Grace Freckelton said she demonstrated her involvement in public affairs through her passion for helping others.
“Grace is an active leader of CanTeen where she supports young people with cancer and is a mentor for other volunteers, as well as planning and leading activities for the Sydney division. She is a volunteer leader in a youth reference group at Headspace Wollongong, organises events, does presentations and goes to schools teaching kids about mental health and what Headspace does. She assists in managing a relationship with a sponsor child from Africa and volunteers at the Kiama Youth Centre. Also in contention were Mia Whitehall and Elizabeth Martin, of TIGS, Annabel Cook and Stefanie Kusters, of Saint Mary’s, Xoese Attipoe and Czarina Jermyn, of Figtree High, and Sophie Ryan, of Warilla High. Miss Martin and Miss Ryan were highly commended.
