Ode to Doubt is a new album by Sydney indie-chamber ensemble Hinterlandt. The album was conceived as one piece of music in seven movements. Three movements feature vocals from Brian Campeau (solo artist, Green Mohair Suits, The Rescue Ships with Elana Stone) and Nicole Smede (The Proposition, Shipwrecked).

Music and words were written, arranged, recorded and mixed by Jochen Gutsch at the Hinterlab in Sydney. The album celebrates the notion of doubt as a healthy basis for critical thinking. Ode to Doubt portrays feelings of doubt as a state of openness for creativity, unusual ideas, individual agency, and social awareness.
Stylistically the music sits between an alternative pop song-writing tradition, contemporary chamber music and progressive arrangements. References include progressive songwriters such as Sufjan Stevens, Owen Pallett or Grand Salvo as much as artists such as John Zorn’s Masada, Tin Hat Trio, or yMusic.
On stage the music is presented in an all-acoustic listening atmosphere, taking audiences on a journey through refined compositions and subtle textures. Hinterlandt kicked off 2017 with launch gigs in Sydney and two performances at Mona Foma Festival in Hobart. They will perform at Jane’s Wollongong on Friday March 24 .
