But in the end, survived at tied for 50th, to see weekend action. A double bogey six when turning for the clubhouse summed up Tighe’s day on Friday.
Tighe had produced a scorching seven-under 63 to share the lead at Toowoomba’s City Golf Club, but he could not maintain the momentum, ending day two with five other bogies and two birdies. It was a birdie at his final hole that ensured he would remain on course on Saturday, finishing at -2, where the tournament cut was made.
Port Kembla’s Jordan Zunic pushed his way up the leaderboard, -3 for the round and tournament.
Zunic made two birdies on his first nine, then handing one back, before consolidating his position to return on Saturday.
Kiwi Daniel Pearce, who was joint leader with Tighe, charged to the top at -13.
