The Southern Joint Regional Planning Panel voted unanimously to approve plans for a 16-storey hotel and apartment complex which will front Belmore and Young Streets.
The $45 million t-shaped building will have 87 rooms and four restaurants, as well as 47 residential apartments on the upper level.
The panel approved the plan despite a small departure from the council’s developing controls about site setbacks, citing its “design excellence” as a mitigating factor.
Panel member Alison McCabe said a new hotel in Wollongong’s inner city was a positive step.
“I look forward to this being built,” she said.
