In Thursday’s Mercury it was reported the 70km/h speed limit will be dropped to 60km/h.
The story drew a largely unfavourable reaction from readers on Facebook, many of whom felt it would not solve the problem.
“If they didn't obey the current limit, why would they take any notice of the new one?” asked Phil Bramley.

Michael Kaehne suggested it was younger drivers who were the problem.
“I drive it at the speed limit every day never had a problem but plenty out there doing well over 100 and they are mostly P platers,” he wrote.
Some readers said speed cameras or an increased police presence were the only things that would deter speeders.
“A greater police presence would change behaviour,” wrote Dino Mansillo.
“I travel this road every day from end to end, it's rarely policed as a hot spot.”
Peter Buckley suggested using a point to point speed camera for all drivers.
