Provocative, high-profile feminist Van Badham will join singer-songwriter Lo Roberts and ABC Illawarra presenter Mel James at the event, which will raise money for the Illawarra Women’s Health Centre.
The centre which provides support for women experiencing or escaping domestic violence, and this year’s fundraising will target its programs for young women and teenagers, as well as women with a disability.
General Manager Sally Stevenson said there were very few services which provided long-term safe support for women experiencing domestic violence.
“We know domestic violence rates are rising,” she said. “And we in the Illawarra experience some of the worst. [Money raised will] contribute to our early intervention with girls an young women where we teach them to know what a healthy relationship is, and how to protect themselves from violence.”
