Mr Martin, a keen surfer and fisherman from Stanwell Park, was in the passenger seat of a southbound Nissan Skyline that slammed at speed into the back of a tipper truck parked on Walker Street, about 2am Sunday.
The force of the crash pushed the truck uphill, into a power pole.
Mr Martin died at the scene.
The driver, identified by 7 News as Lachlan Scipione, 20, suffered multiple injuries and was airlifted to St George hospital.
He remained at the hospital in a critical condition, as at Sunday afternoon.
His family has requested no further updates be made public.
Officers from Crash Investigation Unit attended to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, which occurred on a straight, uphill stretch of Walker Street which is zoned 50km/h.
Meantime, friends have taken to social media to pay tribute to the “amazing, funny and talented” Mr Martin.
“It's almost ironic that you kept us all grounded and now you're the one flying high,” Elliot Turner wrote.
“We have been truly blessed to know someone like you, wholeheartedly one of the best people I have ever met ... Life is precious but you lived it to its full potential. It's hard to put into words how many people you have touched you truly were one of a kind and an inspiration to everyone to keep on going when times were tough. I say this with love and a broken heart but, rest easy.”
