An aspiring doctor caught travelling at almost 200km/hr on the Princes Highway at Helensburgh has been banned from driving for at least two-and-a-half years.

Police say Hao Yuan Hsiung, 19, showed no regard for the safety of himself, his passenger or other road users when he tore up the highway at a speed of 191km/hr – double the 80km/hr limit – in the early hours of June 25.
When officers pulled him over, he managed a brief apology before his licence was confiscated on the spot, with police saying the speed at which he was travelling would have almost guaranteed his death had he crashed.
Hsiung was charged with driving at a dangerous speed and ordered to front court.
In seeking to have his matter dismissed without conviction, Hsiung provided a letter to the court in which he promised never to disobey the law again, saying he wanted to become a doctor and help people, not put their lives at risk.
However, Magistrate Michael Stoddart said a conviction was warranted – along with a $2,000 fine and a two-year good behaviour bond.
