White was named as the new leader, taking over from veterans Rhys Martin and Oscar Forman, with emerging Boomers talent Mitch Norton names as the vice-captain.
Glen Saville, Mat Campbell and Gordie McLeod have all had the honour previously.
“I was sitting down talking to (assistant coach) Matt Flinn the other day and he said there are not many people who can say they have captained the Illawarra Hawks,” White said proudly.
“It’s a special thing and something I’m extremely grateful for.
“We’re in a good spot with the roster we have and the guys who have come in, obviously there is only two of them. We know what each other’s strengths and weaknesses are.”
The Hawks season opener is against Caigns on October 6.
