Holmes narrowly edged out a number of her sporting peers to claim the IAS top award and with it the $5000 sports scholarship courtesy of the Illawarra Mercury.
The IAS 2017 scholarship year concluded in style on Friday evening with the 2017 IAS Presentation Dinner & Athlete Graduation, where 180 athletes across 20-plus sports graduated in the company of family and friends at the Novotel Wollongong Northbeach.
Among the guests were Australian sporting representatives past and present including 2012 Olympians Kieran Govers and Brendan Sexton, as well as dignitaries from local and state governments.
Master of Ceremonies and WIN News Sports Reporter Jared Constable kept the evening flowing while guest speakers and IAS Graduate Kieran Govers provided an insight into what it takes to compete at the pinnacle of sport.
Sport awards were presented to the “Sports Athlete of the Year” for each sports program.
These included:
