Between them the six longest-serving volunteers at the Illawarra Legal Centre account for 180 years of continuous volunteer work.
They were there 30 years ago when the centre was just getting to its feet, and have remained dedicated volunteers there since.
Now their work for those who can’t afford a lawyer has been recognised with a NSW Justice Award.
Called the “Group of Six”, Robert Davidson, Mick Davies, James Isabella, Kerry Kyriakoudes, Michael McGrath and Linda Wright received their awards at a ceremony in Sydney last week held by the Law and Justice Foundation of NSW.
Legal centre co-ordinator Truda Gray said Mr Kyriakoudes gave a speech which epitomised the volunteers’ quiet achieving nature.
“He said it had been a privilege to have worked with us, and to have been able to contribute to the community [through] the Illawarra Legal Centre,” she said.
