Ellis hasn’t featured in any of Illawarra’s past five matches after last suiting up in the team’s 103-87 loss to the Sydney Kings in round two.
His absence from the court has left supporters baffled, with some taking to twitter to voice their disappointment.
Ellis averaged 4.6 points per game in Illawarra’s opening three matches when coming off the bench, but has been unsighted since.
Hawks coach Rob Beveridge admitted his absence from the rotation came as a result of Illawarra’s slow start to the campaign.
“If nothing changes, nothing changes,” the third-year Illawarra coach said.
“We are in a hole, in a rut. It is one of things where there has to be some tough calls at times.
“Right now we have made them and we are starting to get back on track.”
