Illawarra’s Matthew Garnero has starred with both the bat and ball in his side’s under 15 victory over Northern District on Sunday.
Batting in the middle order, Garnero top scored with 88 runs as he led the team to 7/225 in the first innings.
He was then handed the new ball and promptly wreaked havoc on the Northern District top order.
After removing the top three batsmen, he eventually finished with figures of 6/22 off 10 overs as Northern District were bowled out for 138.
In other representative fixtures, the under 12s faced St George in a rain affected match, who they restricted to 2/116 in the first innings. However, they were unable to build stable partnerships and were bowled out for 88 in reply, Oliver Needham top scored with 30 runs.
The under 13s also struggled with the bat, as they were bowled out for 89 in response to Newcastle’s 8/202 at Dalton Park. The under 14s clash with Penrith ended a draw after it was abandoned due to rain.
