After being winless in the past two NSW Country Championships southern division campaigns, as well as failing to make the finals of the Regional Bash Twenty20 competition, Illawarra struggled to match the firepower of Eastern Suburbs.
Winning the toss, Eastern Suburbs made the most of it through Ian Moran and Angus Robson, who made 104 for the first wicket.
In the frantic finish, Illawarra held them to 5-149 off their 20 overs.
Troy Coleman took 2-20 of three overs, as Mitch Watterson snared 2-26 from four.
In reply, Kerrod White, a former Sydney grade cricketer and guess player of Illawarra having returned to the South Coast competition, made 34 off 33 balls, while, Wollongong’s Duncan Maddinson made 35 off 40.
However, they finished 6-127 from their 20 overs, after being 2-100.
