The Illawarra based national not-for-profit health fund was recognised as being among the best for the Rob Goffee Leadership Development Award and the Allan Fels AO Mental Health in the Workplace Award. In doing so it was competing against companies such as Qantas, Chevron and Accenture.
Peoplecare is seen as an employer of choice for its innovative and person-centered leadership development and mental health initiatives.
Chief executive Michael Bassingthwaighte said the recognition reflected the impact Peoplecare’s HR initiatives have had on employees and the industry.
“Our HR team is the driving force behind these award-winning strategies,” he said.
“They help us foster a positive culture with a focus on continuous improvement and outstanding performance. This lends itself to exceptional customer service and member satisfaction.”
Head of people and culture Maree Morgan-Monk said Peoplecare’s ‘personal is best’ philosophy underpinned all the actions, strategies and initiatives that put the employee and customer front of mind.
“It’s our commitment to this approach that makes our HR initiatives successful, especially when your employees are the priority when developing strategies around leadership and mental health,” she said.
“Our initiatives are also modeled by senior management, positively influencing workplace culture and guiding all employees to follow suit”.
The Rob Goffee Leadership Development category acknowledged the Peoplecare Leadership Program aimed at raising the quality of leadership needed to guide its growing workforce.
The program comprises of three core components targeted at budding leaders, current managers and senior leaders, in which participants work through a series of theoretical and practical modules underpinned by mentorship.
As a result of the initiative there have been 33 graduates and eight promotions since 2013, with graduates reporting significant improvements in their productivity and confidence.
The Allan Fels AO Mental Health in the Workplace category acknowledged the Peoplecare Mental Health Program developed in response to the rising prevalence of mental health issues in Australia.
It seeks to support employees to live their healthiest lives.
The program is comprised of a series of mental health support services including the employee assistance program, safe work method statement for workplace stress, mental health first aid officers, plus management training and internal initiatives that engage and empower employees.
