Ellis hadn’t featured for the Hawks since their round-two loss to Sydney two months ago, with his continued absence raising eyebrows among the Hawks faithful.
With stars AJ Ogilvy (injury) and Demitrius Conger (suspension) both unavailable, Ellis was put back into the rotation and produced 14 points at 60 per cent from the field.
He also had four rebounds and three assists in a season-high 21-minute stint on court. The tally put him second only to Rotnei Clarke (24 points) on the Hawks sheet.
Conger will return this week with Ogilvy also likely to be back, but Ellis will be hard to leave off the court on form.
“He did really, really well tonight,” Coach Rob Beveridge said post-match.
“He’s a guy that’s had a lot of DNP’s so for him to put in that performance I was really, really happy for him.”
