Emergency services were called to the single-car accident at the intersection of Cordeaux and Central roads about 12.25pm.
NSW Ambulance Acting Inspector Bernadette McCabe said paramedics arrived to find an 80-year-old man still inside a white Toyota Camry.
The man was trapped in the car, which came to rest on the footpath, by confinement.
He was released from the vehicle by 1pm.
He was treated for suspected neck injuries and taken to Wollongong Hospital in a stable condition.
The traffic lights at the intersection were flashing yellow, with police directing traffic at the scene.
A Fire and Rescue NSW crew from Unanderra station also responded to the accident.
