Hawks guard Mitch Norton is expected to be rubbed out for six weeks after undergoing surgery on a fractured thumb this week.
Norton suffered the injury during Illawarra’s 91-73 defeat to Melbourne United on Monday night, but was able to play on for the remainder of the match.
Scans later revealed the Boomers representative had fractured his thumb and would require immediate surgery.
He finished with four points and four assists from 17 minutes in the loss.
Norton will now be sidelined until the New Year and looks set to miss up to 10 matches.
Illawarra are able to bring in an injury replacement for him during that period and are hopeful of having a player in the squad by Sunday’s clash with Perth Wildcats at WIN Entertainment Centre.
