What we need to do is get rid of all state governments and have just one – The Government of Australia.
To really change we need a new set of politicians who are honest, have integrity and the ABILITY to do the job they are elected to do, run this great country for ALL AUSTRALIANS not like the present corrupt set up.
The people need jobs and a chance to take care of their families and to put an end to people being homeless and living in poverty, after all we are constantly told what a rich country this is, but at present only a few seem to be profiting.
The present model being wanted by politicians is with them having total control and the democratic process scrapped, they are not satisfied with treating tax payers money as their own they seem to want totalitarianism so they are then above the laws of this nation'
We need to be constantly alert.

Repentance is the medicine
Reply to the letter by Bob Vinnicombe, "SOME SIMPLE SOLUTIONS" Mercury, Monday January 1, 2018.
Firstly, the Catholic Church does not exist to keep up with modern fashions and fancies.
The Catholic Church holds that both "Marriage and Priesthood" are separate Sacraments. Celibacy is important for two reasons; (1) It is a continuous sacrifice for the priest, and of cause there is no love without sacrifice. (2) By living the act of celibacy, the priest can remain fully committed to serving those in his care.
Breaking the "seal" of the Sacrament of Penance would achieve nothing, after all what murderer or child sex predator
would bother going to confession knowing the priest (in the confessional) is required to report it to police?
Let me quote one of the Church Fathers, St John Chysostom (347 - 407) when he says "Be ashamed when you sin, don't be ashamed when you repent as it is not simply a feeling of sorrow, but a change of heart and mind.
Sin is the wound, repentance is the medicine. Sin is followed by shame; repentance is followed by boldness to beg God's mercy. Satan has overturned this order and given boldness to sin and shame to repentance".

Beginning … it’s a very good place to start
I routinely read the Wollongong obituaries, but somehow I missed Neil Preston's. We played together as chilren - from about 3 to 10 years of age.
I remember Neil fondly all these years later (I am about to turn 71). We had a very brief contact in 1986, when he was still at the Eletricity Commission and I was working on contract wth AAEC/ANSTO. My heatfelt condolences to his family.
I shall cherish Neil's memory always. Peter Gellatly, Quarda Island, BC, Canada
After listening to all the bull dust and reading the papers. The people who want to increase the penalties, and put more police on the road.
Wake up, this will not work. Even increasing the penalties, for DUI.
First things that must be done, is by starting at the very beginning the magistrate must have to grow some balls.
There should be a compulsory twelve months in jail, that's a must for all stupid drivers.
There should be no appeal nor a lighter sentence given. If we demand a no zero tolerance, then that is how it is done.
Mandatory jail time.
No Bail. Print that headline and in a few short weeks, they will learn not to drink, drugs, and drive
If there caught a second time, Crush there bleeding car's.
