People had to pick who they thought were the top players in the Illawarra Hawks’ 40 seasons of the National Basketball League, which will be celebrated in a special heritage round clash against the New Zealand Breakers on Saturday night. The Hawks, the only remaining foundation club of the NBL, will wear a special singlet for the Illawarra Mercury-sponsored round which features the name of every player to represent the Hawks in those 40 seasons.
An avid basketball fan, Jenkins keeps a close eye on the Hawks who have links to both the great Ray Borner and current Hawks player Tim Coenraad, while current Hawks skipper Kevin White has also played for Bendigo in the SEABL. Ray Borner, an Australian Basketball Hall of Fame member, still resides in Ballarat and is a strong chance to make the final 12.
