The round started with a big victory for the under 18 girls side over Parramatta in the Tarsha Gale Cup. In its second year, the Tarsha Gale Cup is a nine-a-side girls competition established to provide a pathway for teenagers hoping to one day represent the Jillaroos.
The Steelers dominated from the outset, with a Keeley Davis hat-trick helping the side to a comfortable 50-12 victory.
Taking to Ron Costello Field after the girls, the Harold Matthews Cup side ensured Illawarra would go two from two, with a 14-point victory. Halfback Tyrone Roberts had a try and two conversions in the 20 points to 6 victory.
The SG Ball side played on WIN Stadium as the curtain raiser for Saturday night’s Super League clash and the under 18s made the most of the opportunity. The Steelers were never really troubled by Western Suburbs, with Aaron Schoupp crossing for four tries in the 38-12 victory.
