A woman charged over a fatal pedestrian crash at Oak Flats last year was allegedly driving with an illicit drug in her system.

A 78-year-old woman was struck by a southbound Holden Commodore on Central Road about 9.50am on September 7.

The woman was treated by paramedics at the scene for a head injury and multiple injuries to her lower body.

She was transported by road ambulance to the Illawarra Regional Airport, where she was flown to St George Hospital in a critical condition. However, she died two days later.

The crash occurred after the woman stepped off a designated walkway in the middle of the road.

The driver was taken to Shellharbour Hospital for mandatory tests.

Officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit began inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

On Monday, a 23-year-old woman was issued a future court attendance notice for negligent driving occasioning death and for driving a vehicle with an illicit drug present in the blood.

She is due to appear at Albion Park Local Court on June 7.
