Athletes hailing from as far as Finley, Leeton and Wagga Wagga will descend on Beaton Park this weekend for the Little Athletics Region Championships.

The comeptition marks the second phase in the progression to the State Championships and features the best athletes from the Riverina, South Coast and Southern Highlands. All up, 25 clubs will be represented.
The goal for the 730 athletes competing will be to finish in the top two of each event and gain automatic qualification for March’s State Championships.
Wollongong City Little Athletics Club, hosts of the competition, will send 109 athletes to the event and the club is confident many of these athletes will qualify for State.
The club’s junior and senior girls relay teams will head into the event as favourites after breaking Zone records at the Zone Championships in December. Junior and senior boys teams will also compete in the relay events.
