The Windang duo – Zach Stephenson and Billy Fleming – are playing free gigs along Australia’s east coast to promote their second album Blend Inn.
A spokeswoman for their record label Inertia said mid-week tracking data showed the boys are tipped for a top 10 debut on the ARIA Album Charts on Saturday.
The feat would mean Hockey Dad are the most successful group from Wollongong since Tumbleweed’s Galactaphonic peaked at number 6 in 1995.
The Illawarra has also produced a slew of successful solo artists like X-Factor winner Cyrus Villaneuva, actor and performer Natalie Bassingthwaighte and star of the stage Anthony Warlow who have all achieved high ranking on the ARIA charts.
Hockey Dad’s first album Boronia debuted at number 55 when released in August 2016.
ARIA data is collected until 6pm Thursday.
