I was interested to read that students continue a proud Illawarra tradition of fighting for peace with justice when they demonstrated outside a company which has contracted to supply steel to produce armoured military vehicles for Israel.
Shades of Pig Iron Bob.
We all remember the contribution the people of the Illawarra made to ending his attempts to sell steel to Japan when it had invaded China, killing tens of thousands of people and breaking every principle of human rights.
These students are the true descendants of the wharfies who walked off the wharves at Port Kembla for the nine-week Dalfram dispute and the 4000 workers and their families who protested when Sir Robert Menzies came to Wollongong.
This was action based in the Port Kembla area but with a message for peace which spanned the globe.
Wollongong people can be proud of this unique s history and proud of the young people continuing the tradition of fighting for social justice, not just here but around the world.

OH THE IRONY, ALAN
How Ironic that one of the Architects of Qantas's dismissal of 5000 staff four years ago, CEO Alan Joyce, is now being hailed by the Government as a champion of their Company tax reduction trickle down employment program.
Anything that makes business more viable is to be applauded but the inference that this action will lead to increased employment has little providence.
It would be more praiseworthy if Mr Joyce would forego a substantial amount of his obscene salary package (24.6 million in 2017) to enable the employment of some of our disenfranchised young people.
I won't hold my breath.

CHOOSING TO IGNORE THEM
Do not do it, Gladys.
Read these words: “Government of the people by the people.”
Sydney Water ratepayers: Paying over $500,000 a day to the owners of the desalination plant.
So $16.4 billion paid for 33 kilometres of motorway the “dearest” in the world.
The Federal government recently bought 100 fighter jets for $17 billion.
And 55% of power bill plus 83 cents a day earmarked to fund investors in gas and transmission companies while pensioners and lower income earners take out loans to pay their bills
Your policies have workers living in a government forced recession.
The New South Wales Government is a traitor to democracy.
The Treasury is nothing but a clearing-house for investment on the stock exchange.
The democratic oath: “That this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom; and government of the people, by the people, and for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
Decisively powerful words Gladys: It is unfortunate that you chose to ignore them.

I love paramedics’ strike technique. Told my partner, who works at Centrelink, they should strike by approving 100% of claims on a given day.

If you wish to work with children pay for your own check. The private sector pays for all their own government licences and accreditations required to work. The culture of entitlement in the government sector is egregious.
