Balgownie will head into this weekend’s second semi-final as favourites after a dominant season that featured just one defeat.
That defeat, however, came at the hands of University, the Magpies opponents this weekend. Despite this, captain Jamie Fleming is confident his team will win through to the grand final.
“We’re very confident,” Fleming said. “They scraped past Corrimal who we beat in about 25 overs, then they lost to Wollongong, who we beat twice.
“If they’re going to compete with us, they’re going to have to improve their game.”
Uni captain Mitch Calder acknowledges his side will enter the match as underdogs and knows an improvement on last week’s performance will be needed to pull off the upset.
“We’re going to win this game with the ball,” Calder said. “That’s where we are going to be difficult. The batsmen need to improve, we’ve made a nasty habit of being 6-40, which we have to shake. But I have no doubt we can turn it around.”
