Despite sitting sixth on the ladder, Oak Flats caused a major upset by bowling the fearsome Lake battting lineup for just 119, six runs short of Oak Flats’ 125. The Lakers collapsed to lose 8-17 late in the innings.

Oak Flats captain Andrew Twyford said the collapse came as a major shock, however he is expecting a fearsome retaliation in the seconds innings. Oak Flats will resume their second innings at 2-15.

“I think we just surprised them,” Twyford said. “Scott McAndrew came on with his off-spin and got Brendan White and pretty much from then it was all over.

“It was a Lake batting performance that I haven’t seen before that showed up last weekend, but I’m pretty sure they’re going to bring a different approach this week.”

Last week’s performance was bittersweet for Twyford, pleasing to see such an impressive display, but disappointing it came with the Rats out of the finals hunt.

“We haven’t had much go our way this year, but this is a good chance for our juniors to improve and show us what they’re capable of and earn their spot. It’s the perfect opportunity for them to step up and give it their best.”

In this weekend’s other matches, Gerringong will resume at 4-130, after bowling The Rail out for 91 last Saturday.

Gerringong are chasing Shellharbour for fourth position, however Shellharbour are sitting in a pretty good position and will resume at 1-89 chasing Kookas 169.
