Getting to the Ed Sheeran concert from Wollongong

Thousands of excited Illawarra fans will travel to Sydney across three nights this week to catch Ed Sheeran in concert at ANZ Stadium.

With hundreds of thousands of people expected to attend the English singer-songwriter’s show at Olympic Park, transport authorities are advising concertgoers to leave the car at home and get to the venue early.

Here’s everything you need to know about catching the train from Wollongong and other important information.

Where: ANZ Stadium, Sydney Olympic Park

When: Thursday, March 15 – Saturday, March 17

  • Doors open each night: 4.30pm 
  • Opening act Ryan McMullan: 6.30pm 
  • Support act Missy Higgins: 7.30pm 
  • Ed Sheeran: 8:45pm 
  • Finish time about 10.30pm

Dress standards

As a minimum for general admission to ANZ Stadium, patrons must be appropriately clothed for a public place and must wear shoes. Patrons with bare feet will not be permitted entry.

Catching the train

Tickets to Ed Sheeran’s three shows include travel on all public transport services - including South Coast Line trains - and with express trains and major event buses running, it’ll be the best way to get to the concert.

Getting there

Sydney Trains services will run to a regular timetable with additional express services running to Olympic Park. 

Thursday and Friday 

  • Express services from Central will run every 7-8 minutes from 4.30pm until 9.30pm, stopping at Redfern and Strathfield.


  • Express services from Central will run every 7-8 minutes from 4.30pm until 9.30pm, stopping at Redfern and Strathfield then Olympic Park.

Getting home

Additional return services will run after the concert to help get you home.

Thursday and Friday

  • Express services to Central will leave Olympic Park every 5 minutes from 9.30pm until 12.30am and every 10 minutes until 1.30am, stopping at Strathfield and Redfern.
  • Two additional Kiama services will leave Central at 11.53pm and 12.44am, stopping at Redfern, Sutherland then all stations to Kiama.


  • Express to Central services will leave Olympic Park every five minutes from 9.30pm until 1am, stopping at Strathfield and Redfern.
  • An additional Kiama service will leave Central at 12.34am, stopping all stations to Kiama.

Driving your car

  • Car parks are expected to fill quickly, so ensure you pre-book your parking. Leave the car at home and take advantage of the additional and direct train services, and major event buses, in operation for the event.

Important event information from ANZ Stadium

  • Plan to get there early as significant traffic delays are expected, particularly on the Thursday and Friday evenings when fans travel during the already busy evening peak.
  • Fans who have to drive will need to pre-book parking, arrive early and carpool where possible as car parks will fill early each night. 
  • Allow additional time for the security screening process when entering the Stadium.

  • Umbrellas
  • Chairs, eskies and other oversized objects
  • Backpacks or bags with multiple compartments
  • GoPros, tablets, iPads, or selfie sticks
  • Professional cameras with detachable lenses
  • Professional or non-mobile phone video recorders
  • Professional recording devices.

Items restricted or prohibited by ANZ Stadium:

  • Glass or cans
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Flares, fireworks, weapons, explosives or smoke bombs
  • Laser pens / pointers
  • Knives or other dangerous weapons
  • Cameras and Recording devices (for commercial purposes) including tripods
  • Metal flag poles, extendable flag poles and / or flag poles of more than 1.4 metres in length
  • Oversized banners and flags which are deemed to cause public nuisance. Specific conditions may apply for some events regarding the entry of flagpoles, flags, and banners
  • Whistles, hooters and horns. Specific conditions may apply for some events regarding the entry of musical instruments including drums
  • Confetti or shredded paper
  • Scooters, roller skates, skateboards and push bikes
  • Electronic cigarettes (e-cig or e-cigarettes), personal vaporisers, electronic nicotine delivery systems, or other battery powered vaporisers are not permitted to be consumed anywhere in the Stadium other than in the venue’s designated smoking areas
  • Items that can be used as a projectile
  • Commercial, political or other offensive signage or logos
  • Other items as determined by ANZ Stadium management that may cause injury or public nuisance.
