Speaker is Young Australian of the Year, scientist and inventor Macinley Butson who was the first Australian to win an INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair Award after developing a Smart Armour shield for breast cancer patients to protect their non-treated breast while undergoing radiotherapy.
The Zonta ‘Young Women in Public Affairs Award’ honours young women between the ages of 16 and 19 who have demonstrated a commitment to the volunteer sector, volunteer leadership achievements and dedication to empowering women worldwide.
The Zonta Club of Wollongong is part of a global organisation which aims to empower women worldwide through service and advocacy.
It presently fundraises and packs Birthing Kits for developing counties, supports local women by providing toiletry packs and clothing to the Illawarra women's refuge and provides study grants and awards to encourage and support women in education and business.
