Last Friday, Warrigal officially opened its dementia home, named ‘Mystics’ after the popular surf break.
The new neighbourhood forms part of the 128-bed residential care home at Warrigal’s flagship aged care precinct.
‘Mystics’ has been designed to be dementia-friendly with new initiatives that create “familiarity and connectedness with colour and vibrancy”.
For example, there are individually wrapped colourful ‘front doors’ to suites where customers are encouraged to surround themselves with their familiar belongings to create a sense of home and comfort.
There is also a 1950s backyard, including a timber shed and an original-looking Hills Hoist.
Staff will be on-hand at ‘Mystics’ to provide memory support and purpose-filled days which include a range of activities.
‘Mystics’ will also house the latest in technology including sensors and a purpose-built customer online portal, which was co-developed with older people, and can be accessed by family and friends to book meals, activities and other services including on-site day spa appointments.
