Playing against the Newcastle Knights at the Collegians Sporting Complex, the Steelers were made to work hard for their 44-30 victory.
Despite first half tries from Mikayla Kidd, Maddison Weatherall, Keely Davis and Lilly-Rose Bennett, a Knights try on the stroke of half-time saw the teams head to the sheds locked at 22-all.
Davis and Bennett crossed early in the second half to push the Steelers ahead, however Newcastle hit back, with tries to Emily Harman and Tia Cook reducing the gap to two points with just nine minutes to play.
The Steelers kept fighting, however, with Shannon and Michaela Scutts crossing in the final seven minutes to put the result beyond doubt.
During the match, the Steelers were led by Group Seven products Rhiannon Brown (Bomaderry), Bronte Girdler (Stingrays), Abbey Montgomery (Milton-Ulladulla) and Hannah England (Milton-Ulladulla).
In other Steelers results, the Harold Matthews side went down 30-12 to the Knights, despite tries from Tyrell Sloan and Drever Burdis.
Group Seven products in the match included Joshua Coric, Harley Nizza and Cooper Tunbridge (all Albion Park-Oak Flats), Riley Wooden (Milton-Ulladulla) and Louie Chilver (Berry-Shoalhaven Heads).
The final match of the weekend saw the Matt O’Brien and Jono Dallas coached SG Ball side go down 46-8 to the Knights.
The Steelers started on top, with tries to Kane Ball and Max Feagai seeing the home side lead 8-6 after 16 minutes. However, it was all one-way traffic from there, with the Knights running away with the game.
Group Seven’s Tarje Whitford (Milton-Ulladulla), Dylan Lucas (Albion Park-Oak Flats) and Samuel Hooper (Warilla-Lake South) all played tough during the match.
In round eight of the competition, all three team’s travel to Panthers Stadium this Saturday to play Penrith.
