For Canberra he won the Raiders' player of the year award in 2005, along with Troy Thompson. Miller won the award again in 2009 alongside Josh Dugan.

“They don’t come much tougher or as hard working as Joshy,’’ Australian test prop David Shillington said, who lauded Miller’s work ethic and commitment.
“He’s a pretty impressive player, I reckon … and you definitely need players like that in your team.
“He’s got a great tackling technique and he’ll hit it up all day.
“There’s rarely a game where he doesn’t split himself open because he’s just so committed all the time.”
Josh Miller said at the time, “I’m here to play first grade and I’m looking to put in the best performance I can every time I get out there.”
But on November 8, 2012 he retired from the NRL due to medical reasons as advised by St George Illawarra Dragons medical staff.
Concussion problems ended his run. Miller was applauded for his acceptance of ongoing concussion problems, with medical professionals declaring his early retirement an ‘‘important’’ step forward for the NRL.
Miller conceded at a press conference in Wollongong that another season of rugby league risked being detrimental to his health.
This forward is of the old school – a hard-hitting, no-fuss player who gives as good as he gets.
