A 26-year-old man has been charged over a horrific car crash near Campbelltown in which a teenager died and five others were seriously injured.

Emergency services were called to Campbelltown Road at Woodbine about 7.15pm on Friday and found eight vehicles – a blue Holden Commodore, a Toyota Yaris, Nissan X-Trail, Ford Mondeo, Hyundai Santa Fe, a Commodore wagon, Kia Sportage and a Mitsubishi Lancer – had collided.
As a result of the crash, the blue Commodore caught on fire.
A 57-year-old man, who was driving the Kia, and his remaining passengers – two men, aged 19 and 20, and an 18-year-old woman - were all seriously injured.
The driver and three passengers underwent surgery and remain in a serious but stable condition.
The Commodore wagon was driven by a 69-year-old man and carrying two passengers. The female passenger from this car was injured.
The drivers and passenger of the remaining vehicles were assessed on site by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital for further medical checks. This included a 45-year-old woman, a 34-year-old woman, a 21-year-old woman, a 54-year-old man, plus a man and woman both aged 26.
A 26-year-old man from Mount Annan, who was allegedly driving the blue Commodore, was freed from the wreckage by witnesses.
He was taken to Liverpool Hospital where he underwent surgery. He remains in a serious but stable condition.
The man has been charged with 13 offences including: manslaughter; aggravated driving occasioning death; aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm; cause bodily harm by misconduct; negligent driving occasioning death; negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm; and not keep left of median strip.
The man remains under police guard in hospital and will appear via bedside court hearing at Parramatta Local Court on Sunday.
Inquiries into the incident are continuing.
