Illawarra businesswoman Karen Meiring de Gonzalez is celebrating 20 years since opening her first Skin Correctives Paramedical Dermal Clinic in South Africa.
In 2011 she sold the business and moved to Australia where she opened the Skin Correctives Paramedical Beauty Clinic in Shellharbour within six months or arriving. Then a year later in October 2012 she expanded the business by opening a second clinic in Wollongong.
Two decades after it all began Mrs Meiring de Gonzalez’s motivation is still the same. She said loves helping people gain confidence as they watch their skin improve and change. “It is incredibly fulfilling”.
Mrs Meiring de Gonzalez believes her business has survided so long because she never stops trying to improve. She also thinks that is one of the main reasons why the Skin Corrective team have won so many regional and national awards such as the 2017 Local Business Awards Outstanding Youth Award being presented to Elysa Perry. And winning the beauty services category at the 2016 Australian Small Business Champion Awards.
Skin Correctives was recently named a finalist again in the Australian Small Business Champion Awards. Mrs Meiring de Gonzalez said that was a wonderful way to celebrate the anniversary of the successful business she originally started in South Africa in 1998.
She said throughout the whole journey she has remained a dedicated and passionate DMK technician which helps her motivate her team.
DMK was founded by bio-chemist Danné Montague-King.
Mrs Meiring de Gonzalez started training with the company and its products from the outset in Johannesburg.
She said staying with DMK was a natural progression when she moved to a new country and met DMK Australia and New Zealand directors Daniel and Debbie Dickson. Within four years Skin Correctives was recognised as the top DMK clinic in NSW in 2015. In 2017 it was ranked the second clinic in the state and won the Ambassador Award for Mentoring at the 2017 DMK Australia Awards.
Mrs Meiring de Gonzalez said her team’s success could be put down to the hunger every employee has to keep improving and learning.
“It is an exciting moment when a new graduate is fully validated by DMK HQ. Their excitement is palpable when new products and techniques are introduced to the clinic,” she said.
DMK Australian managing director Daniel Dickson said Skin Correctives consistently succeeded as a business because whole team had passion for what they do every day.
The Dickson’s are also celebrating their 20th anniversary as directors of DMK Australia and New Zealand. Mrs Dickson is DMK’s Head of Education.
They spent two days in Wollongong for the Skin Correctives celebrations to help run VIP informations sessions for Illawarra clients.
