Anyone from the Illawarra wanting to have their say about how combat sports should be regulated can attend a Public Consultation Forum on Monday April 9 at WIN Stadium in Wollongong from 6pm to 8:30pm.
The review of the Combat Sports Act 2013 has arisen from recommendations made by the Coroner’s Court of NSW after the inquest into the death of professional boxer Davey Browne.
Browne died in hospital on September 15, 2015, after being knocked to the canvas in the 12th round of a regional IBF super featherweight title fight at the Ingleburn RSL four days prior.
People who can't attend can take an electronic survey.
Some of the questions include ‘should currently excluded sports, martial arts and activities continue to be excluded from the Act or should they be regulated’, ‘should amateur combat sports continue to be regulated’, and ‘should the registration requirements and classes be simplified’.
Attendance to the free forum is restricted to ticket-holders – tickets must be reserved via www.eventbrite.com.au
The forum will also travel to Parramatta, Newcastle and Dubbo.
