The 18th annual Paddle Against Poverty, whereby participants will be paddling 15km along the coastline of the Illawarra is on this Saturday.
The paddle will begin at 8am from either Stanwell Park Beach or Wollongong Harbour (depending on weather conditions).
It finishes at Thirroul Beach, with a barbecue and presentations from about 10.30am to 11.30am.
Christian Surfers Australia, in partnership with other organisations, run a series of Paddle Against Poverty events each year.
Each paddle is organised for a certain distance, with paddlers sponsored to raise money for selected groups, generally focusing on those struggling with poverty throughout the world.
“We expect wonderful conditions again and approximately 100 paddlers to be raising funds which will go towards Compassion Australia and Waves for Water filters,” Illawarra event organiser Daniel Hatton, from North Wollongong Christian Surfers said.
“We’ve set a fundraising goal of $15,000, which we have reached at some previous years’ events.”
