Reel Deal: Forecast looks good for some school holiday fishing fun

The guys from Compleat Angler Illawarra at Windang say that with the school holidays starting this weekend, the long-term weather forecast is looking good, and with heaps of fish around, there is no excuse to not get out there and wet a line.

In Lake Illawarra, the crabbing is still good enough to give it a burl with some nice sized blue swimmers about taken using pots and dillies.

Flatties are still cruising around as the water is still quite warm with some fish going 50 to 60cm during a couple of good sessions fishing around the drop off.

Don’t forget to enter the Compleat Angler Flathead Challenge (shop has details) that will be held later this month (April 28-29) for your chance to enjoy a weekend of fishing and possibly take home some goodies.

Local beaches have been holding good schools of decent sized whiting and on a very local beach – use your imagination – again very local.

TV fishing host Rob Paxevanous visited the Illawarra the past week and hit the sand and surf, getting among the action with plenty of good fish.

Bass Point has been all over the news lately for good and not so good reasons but the bonito have been in excellent numbers.

A lot has been said about it and we won’t go into it other than to say for everyone, be they a local or visitor, a little common sense and respect goes a long way.

Offshore those fish with beaks aka marlin, are still about.

The boys from Frantic Lures scored a blue marlin during the weekend taking out the biggest fish prize in the Kiama Game Fish tournament.
