Club president John Walker won the Reserve Champion Border Fancy Canary competition.
Success also came to his fellow society members Brian Martin who won Grand Champion Colour Budgerigar, while club secretary Brad Kerr won Reserve Champion Gloster Canary.
Now the men and their award-winning birds will take flight closer to home.
And, it will be a sea of colour in Bulli on Saturday, April 28 when more than 700 colourful birds including canaries, finches and parrots take flight.
Breeders from all around the state will also venture out to Bulli PCYC for the Wollongong and District Avicultural Society’s 69th annual bird show.
Mr Walker said this year’s show looks like being the biggest since he took over the club presidency seven years ago.
In his first year at the club they had 350 birds on show.
Since then the man they call Whiskey has reintroduced buderigars and parrots and expects to have over 750 birds on show this year.
“This is a great effort by the members of the Wollongong & District Avicultural Society,” Mr Walker said.
“Considering five country clubs in the past six years have folded, it’s a real credit to our members that we’re doing well.”
The April 28 show runs from 1-3pm.
