With more than 750 players involved, it is the first time the tournament has been held in the Illawarra.
The Surge have previously claimed success in the women’s division in 2016.
A combination of athletic and sporting disciplines, using a frisbee disc, Ultimate Australia is a unique sport in its ability to be self-refereed high performance manager Dan Rule said this was to foster spirit in the game.
“Ultimate Frisbee is the world's only self-refereed team sport," he said.
“Because we have no referees, we have to resolve any disputes between each player involved.
Fouls are discussed with other about what should occur next and what is the most fair outcome.
“This is basically teaching conflict resolution, good community values and mutual respect between opponents."
