Roads and Maritime Services is looking for a local artist to paint a mural on one of the sound barriers along Memorial Drive.
A spokesman said it was part of an initiative to combat the ongoing problem of graffiti on the noise barriers along the route, which cost $100,000 a year to clean up.
“The eyesore will soon be replaced by art work depicting Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal culture, heritage and the local environment,” the spokesperson said.
“The art work planned for the barriers will be multi-coloured and aim to deter vandals as tagging will be more difficult.”
