Wolves coach Jacob Timpano was forced into three substitutions before half time as the Wolves fell on the road at Sydney United Sports Centre.
Ryan Ensor, Steve Hayes and Yuzo Tashiro all had to be removed before the main break.
Ensor’s groin injury could require a longer stint on the sidelines while his teammates now face fitness tests in the lead up to next weekend’s clash with Bonnyrigg White Eagles.
All three were missed as the Wolves battled a strong second half display from United.
Chris Payne and Panny Nikas both put goals past in-form Wollongong keeper Justin Pasfield.
Their contributions swayed the result in United’s favour, but Timpano wasn’t dissatisfied with his team’s performance.
"I haven't walked away from the game concerned with how we are playing," he said.
"We actually played some really good stuff.

"We could have been a bit more ruthless in front of goal but otherwise, we were pretty good. Obviously the injuries hurt us.
