Police allege Jiahne Rhiannon Proud-Shee held the syringe like a knife above her head before spraying its contents in the victim’s face during a dispute between the pair in March last year.
Court documents said the victim and Proud-Shee’s boyfriend had been involved in a “heated argument” two months prior but otherwise they weren’t acquainted.
However, they both caught the same train with their respective partners on the morning of March 21 and an argument developed between the two couples.
It continued when they got off the train at Wollongong station and had reached fever pitch by the time they were on Crown Street.
It is alleged Proud-Shee said “you want to get stabbed by someone with HIV” before pulling out the blood-filled syringe, pointing it at the victim and spraying the contents in his face.
Court documents said the victim chased after Proud-Shee, following her to the methadone clinic on Denison Street.
Police arrived a short time later and interviewed the victim.
“The blood went all over my face, in my eyes and my hair and all down the front of my jumper,” he said. “I could feel it dripping on me.”
Proud-Shee was arrested the following day, however claimed during an interview that she’d been acting in self defence.
Proud-Shee pleaded not guilty to a charge of common assault however was convicted in her absence and had a warrant issued for her arrest after missing three court dates, the most recent of which was last month.
Proud-Shee was apprehended on the warrant on Wednesday afternoon.
She applied for bail in court on Thursday but it was refused by Magistrate Michael Stoddart, who noted the 21-year-old had a long criminal history that included multiple breaches of court orders.
