Think long term
The Lord Mayor in his letter of 13 April said, in defence of selling of community lands, that WCC is releasing more land “for the community to access and enjoy” and cites West Dapto.

But what about the rest of Wollongong. In North Wollongong, WCC in conjunction with the local Neighbourhood are seeking to find a location for a pocket park.
Wollongong Council resolved in 1995 to open Stuart Park for more “community access and enjoyment” by relocating the Cricket and Baseball out of Stuart Park and release the area as a village green.
Yet WCC has allowed a large part (approx 1.5ha) of that land to be ‘sold off’ to Commercial interests that deny the locals and visitors “community access and enjoyment”; and; WCC intends to do the same for another 20 years.
Is the argument that the public don’t use it now, the reason for another 20 year of isolation?
So where will the people of North Wollongong and the many visitors to North Wollongong have access to community lands for enjoyment that allows it to be used in a manner envisaged by the Council in 1995?
It is time to consider the long term strategic plan, 50+ years, before disposing of community land.
In 50 years time many more areas of Wollongong will have high rise, high density development.
Many of the proposed community sites being sold off could be the ‘Pocket Park” the people of North Wollongong are seeking to find.

Atta Boy, answer me
I am very interested in trying Daptos newest restaurant Atta Boy. I have left several messages over the past few weeks asking for a copy of the menu and phone number.
Each time it tells me that a staff member will be in touch as soon as they are up and running. Not good enough as the first time I left a message was the day that they opened.
I tried their website, nothing except photos of food, no description of what the food was and no prices also no phone number for me too ring and make a booking.
Website needs updating. Could you please ring them and tell them too send a copy of their menu and phone number by Wednesday 18th April to the above email address.
I do not want to get this info from you I want it from the restaurant.

Not all negative
I am writing in relation to the proposed Correctional Centre to be built in Dapto.
I have read a lot of negative view point articles that have been posted in your newspaper recently.
Whilst I am open to all view points I have a a differing opinion to that of the writers of the recently published articles. I currently work in the industry and have done for many years. Often consideration is not given to the fact that the inmates who are housed in our prisons once lived and will one day live again as a part of our community.
Another significant point is the creation of permanent jobs in an area that currently has high unemployment when compared to the national average.
All I am really trying to say is although they are criminals they are still people who come from our community and return to our community irrespective of where they are housed when in prison.

Sibilant salutations
Another day another sibilant reply/response from Adrian Devlin (Mercury 14/4), describing other Mercury correspondents as immature, malicious, illiterate, lack of dignity, misrepresentation, delusional. Unfortunately he omitted leftie, greenie and aberrant behaviour, sorry Adey only eight out of ten for this one.
