The new bulk processing facility has the capacity to process about 100,000 containers per day.
It is the second of its kind to be operated by Vinnies in NSW.
Located at 10-12 Investigator Drive, it is open from 8am to 3.30pm, Monday to Saturday to both the general public and businesses.
Container deposit refunds can be received on-the-spot via reverse Electronic Funds Transfer, or users of the facility can choose to donate some or all of their refund to Vinnies to help support vital services, with tax deductible receipts issued for donations more than $2.
“The operation of the Vinnies Unanderra Bulk Container Deposit Centre will help to raise important funds to assist Vinnies in providing a helping hand to those Australians experiencing disadvantage and homelessness in our communities,” Vinnies’ executive officer central councils and commercial operations Peter Knock said.
Vinnies receives a fee for each container processed through the centre.
Together with all refunds donated to Vinnies by users of the facility, funds raised will be used to help run accommodation and support services for vulnerable and disadvantaged people across the region, such as counselling and case management.
Volunteers are also sought to assist with the facility’s operation.
Successful applicants will receive in-house training specific to the role.
